Did you see our big news from board President @momma_cheese yet?! It’s hard to emphasize what a huge deal this is for us.

Becoming a 501(c)(3) launches us into a new phase of major growth. We’re - finally!! - delving into our farm search: seeking a site for our permanent home. We’re building a permaculture EcoVillage where ALL have access to food, jobs, housing, and other basic needs. It’s a huge undertaking, and we’re so excited.

We’ll continue to post about where we’re at in the process and how you can help. For now, please consider making a TAX-DEDUCTIBLE donation to our Farm Fund: link in bio.

Have you ever wondered what our Board meetings are like? We would love for you to join sometime! Anyone is welcome to participate or listen in. Our next meeting is a week from today, and we meet 4x per year. We have a lot of fun, learn new things, and make big-picture decisions at these gatherings.

If you would like to join a meeting, just comment or DM for the zoom info. If you’re curious about volunteering for the Board, this is also a great way to see the roles our Directors play!

The internet claims Foxglove only grows to 5 feet, but Board President @momma_cheese is just shy of 6 feet tall - putting this puppy well over 7’!

Foxgloves are important flowers for bees. They are “pioneer plants” and tend to be found in tough growing conditions. As self-seeding annuals, they die back each year. Leave the heads on the plants over the winter to create homes for beneficial pest predators.

🌀 Foxglove Fun Fact: It’s rumored that Van Gogh was tripping on It when he painted the infamous “Starry Night!” As much as we love him, please don’t take that as a recommendation. It’s highly toxic - even in small doses - and should therefore not be consumed.

BUT they are good for pollinators and soil and look lovely in the landscape!

We’re careful sharing images of homeless camps, because we don’t want the “so awful what has happened to our neighborhood” kind of response.

Instead, we ask “how did WE let this happen to our neighborhood?” and “how can WE help?” Homelessness is not an individual problem: it’s a community problem. A community has failed a group of people, and those people are suffering because of it. Read that last sentence again 👆🏽

We are failing our neighbors, and we must do better.

Thank you all for your support of our FIRST major fundraising event this past weekend!! We had so much fun chatting and learning together, and were successful in raising funds for Covid Care Kits for our unhoused neighbors. Streams and recipes will be uploaded to our YouTube and website (some are there already!).

Any donations received in the next week (until Halloween) will also go to the Covid Care Kit fund. Donation link is in our Bio or on the website.

Orb weavers! Scary to many, yet completely harmless to us. Their chompers are too weak to puncture human skin (even little humans). Orb weavers create spiral webs - something surprisingly few spiders do. These webs capture pests that CAN harm humans, like mosquitoes and flies.

We know your instinct might be to squash them, but they are important “beneficial pest predators,” so we encourage you to let them be 🤗

ID them from their webs and appearance. They’re big bootied and often spread their legs in a pattern just like this: 4 forward, 2 middle, 2 back. In our region, they can be brown, grey, or orange. You may also know them as “garden spiders.” This lil friend was inside a trash can in the veggie garden 🕸

These seeds are from a wild variety we grow. A “pioneer plant,” it seeks edges and grows well in degraded soils.

Wild fennel seeds are edible and taste of anise. It’s also medicinal, often being used for digestive issues. It is anti-inflammatory and contains even more antioxidants than its domesticated counterpart. Chew a few around mealtime to help with digestion, toss into meals, or brew a soothing herbal tea with them 🍵
